TRANSITION  UPDATE

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  When we sent out the Parish Survey, we were told that the usual average of return is about 20%.  We hoped that we would do better than that.  In all, you have turned in about 150 surveys.  That is a return of 50% of those sent out!  If you consider that our average attendance this year has been about 170-180, that is over 80% of those who attend regularly!  Your response has been wonderful.  In addition, we know that this was not a quick and easy survey to complete.  It took time to think about the questions and how you wanted to answer.  It is evident as we are going through and tabulating the surveys that you did just that, as you have given very thoughtful answers and comments.  Many thanks also to the Survey/Parish Profile Team who have put in many hours developing the survey and now tabulating the results.  Special thanks go to Esther Miseroy for leading the team and to Adam Emery for developing the format and typing the survey.  After all of the results are compiled, the results of the survey will be shared with you.
Based on feedback from you, the Vestry has decided to maintain the current leadership by holding over for one year those members of the class of 2008 who are willing to stay, including the current Sr. and Jr. Wardens.  However, due to concerns about how this would affect the Vestry elections of 2010, it was also decided that we would go ahead and hold elections this January as usual, to elect four new Vestry members.  This will temporarily expand the Vestry up to the 15 members that were originally specified in our church by-laws.  When the retained members are retired in January 2010, along with the normal retiring class, the Vestry will revert to the current 12 members.
The Vestry has asked Rev. Robin Murray to be consultant for us as we complete the Parish Profile that will go out to rector candidates and to work with the Search Committee when it is named.  Fr. Murray has extensive experience in assisting churches in successful searches for a new rector.  Before his retirement, he was Rector at St. Andrew's Church in Spring Hill and Dean of the Clearwater Deanery.
The Vestry also continues in the search for an Interim Priest.  Many thanks to   Fr. John Kelley, who has been leading our Wednesday morning Eucharist and helping in other ways.
