Faith and Action for Strength Together (FAST), is a congregation-based community organization bringing together congregations to powerfully address injustice and poverty in Pinellas County.

The general goal of FAST is to serve as agents of change, calling for a “renewed” community by holding public systems accountable to improve the quality of life for all in Pinellas County.  To foster and promote community-wide interest and concern for the problems of individuals and families, particularly low to moderate income, so that such issues as poverty, crime, sickness, housing, education, and environmental degradation may be lessened, and education and economic opportunities may be expanded.

As led by the Creator of all things, the mission of FAST is to engage people of diverse faiths in a process of listening, education, action and reflection in order to powerfully address community issues in Pinellas County.

Accomplishments of FAST since it started operating in 2005:

  1. In Education – The Director of the Pinellas Early Learning Coalition committed to providing funds so all children from low-income working mothers can attend all day pre-K program.
  2. In Transportation – The Director of the Metropolitan Planning Organization has implemented a one number phone number system to assist senior in meeting their transportation needs.  The Director of PSTA has authorized and built 3 new bus shelters in areas of high-volume student and senior bus use.
  3. Housing – The Pinellas County Commissioners has agreed to a 10,000,00 trust per year for the next 3 years to be earmarked for low income housing, homeless, and low interest and assistance for working people such as teachers, nurses, fireman, etc. to obtain their own homes.

 The Pinellas County Commissioners have agreed to work with FAST to put in place inclusionary zones for future developers in Pinellas County.
